Senior Technical Security Countermeasures (TSCM) Officer

Based at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes, MK19 7BH, with overseas travel and the flexibility of hybrid working (depending on business need).
Free onsite parking, or free shuttle bus available between central Milton Keynes and Hanslope Park.

You’re trustworthy and conscientious, a technical specialist who wants to travel and take on real responsibility, to lead teams that serve a greater purpose. If this sounds like you, a role as a Senior Technical Security Countermeasures Officer could be the next step in your career.

The UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE) protects national security by providing Technical Security expertise to the UK government, friendly foreign governments and the critical national infrastructure (CNI). We also provide leadership for the technical security profession across government. In the past year we have played a key role at both the G7 and COP26 summits, enabling ministers and senior officials to negotiate effectively whilst away from Whitehall. UK NACE is part of FCDO Services and works in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to protect our critical assets in Embassies overseas.

Lead technical inspections to support national security

Become a Senior Technical Security Countermeasures Officer with us and you’ll lead teams to assess the vulnerability of sensitive assets that are critical to the UK’s security. Taking a holistic look at anything that could be compromised in a technical attack, you’ll be helping to develop strategies and technology that help us keep data – and people – safe.

In addition to carrying out inspections on crucial technical equipment and compiling detailed reports about sensitive data, you’ll lead on a range of projects, from equipment development, testing and installation, to undertaking risk assessments and scoping forensic investigations. This is a customer-facing role, working closely with our government customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and our international partners, so you’ll need exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to explain complex technical data in a clear way. You’ll also manage a team of officers. Leading by example, you’ll delegate tasks and support them to grow with your technical experience and specialist knowledge. This role is diverse and fulfilling, perfect for a motivated specialist looking to grow.

Access all areas

You’ll come equipped with a range of demonstrable skills in electronics, IT Networks, mechanics, construction, software development or programming and data analytics, alongside a UK driving license and experience managing small teams. You’ll also have a Level 3 qualification in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics-related discipline, and either a BCS Level 3 Infrastructure Technician or BCS Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist qualification.

Reliable, organised and proactive, you’ll be up to date on all relevant certification, using your skills to survey locations and lead on projects that serve national security. A role with UK NACE is as unique as you are, and will give you the chance to use your skills to help support UK diplomacy and protect the UK against technical attack. You’ll also enjoy international travel and ongoing training, staying up to date with technical skills and knowledge to support your team and grow the department.

A career that makes a difference

When you join us, you’ll be helping to protect the nation’s interests at home and overseas. In return you’ll receive a competitive salary, 25 days’ annual leave and an excellent Civil Service pension. You’ll also have access to a range of training opportunities, including our research and development programme. We offer hybrid working too (dependent on business need), and while on-site you’ll have access to a gym, nursery and canteen. We even offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes, to help you get there. Above all else, you’ll feel pride in doing work that helps us protect people, information and assets here and overseas. It’s your job, bigger.

A note on security clearance

Every colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: FCDO Services (fcdoservicescareers.co.uk)
