Sensitivity Review IT Technical Support Officer

Sensitivity Review IT Technical Support Officer
Full time and based at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes
Free shuttle bus available between central Milton Keynes and Hanslope Park

Positive, flexible and adaptable, you enjoy learning new skills and working closely with customers. You’ve got plenty of experience working in IT support and software administration, and a good understanding of how to host hardware and network infrastructure. But now you’re ready for something different. A new challenge. A career with genuine influence and importance. You want to do your job, but bigger. Here at FCDO Services we’ve got a unique opportunity for you, one that will see you working on IT systems for an organisation that works to protect the country’s security interests.

As a trusted government partner, we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We keep complex developments on track, and on budget. And a whole lot more besides. Now we’re looking for a team-focused IT professional to join our Sensitivity Review service.

Provide troubleshooting expertise to our Sensitivity Review service

When you join us in this vital role you’ll be joining a team that enables UK Government departments to select, review and transfer digital records consistently and securely for permanent preservation at The National Archives. The tools we use to manage the service incorporate elements of AI and machine learning, and you’ll act as the go-to person when it comes to troubleshooting IT systems, networks and software. You’ll also provide technical assistance to users, ensuring data security, maintaining hardware and software, and implementing IT policies with the service.

Work with a wide range of colleagues from across our organisation

You’ll be working with a team of policy officers with experience of historical world events, operations colleagues responsible for preparing the digital information for review and a technology team who develop and support software applications. In addition to troubleshooting and offering assistance you’ll have a range of additional responsibilities, including using specialist tools to transfer our customers’ files, and ensuring that backup and disaster recovery systems are operational at all times.

Use your ICT skills to deliver vital services as we defend the UK’s national security interests

With strong ICT skills, good knowledge of infrastructure and excellent fault-finding skills, you’ll be a confident communicator and presenter with the ability to deliver services on time and schedule. We’ll look for a qualification in a relevant technical subject, and in addition to great customer service skills, you’ll also be ready to work and manage your time on your own initiative. Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Basic, Active Directory and Linus would be desirable, as would a practical understanding of Docker and the use of Hyper-V Virtual Machines. In addition, an interest in the Public Records and Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the work of the Information Commissioner would be a bonus.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas – but how will we help you in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service pension, we’ll also support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there.

If you’re successful with your application you’ll need to achieve Developed Vetting security clearance. This process can take some time, but the end result – an exciting and fulfilling career with FCDO Services – means that it’s well worth the wait. If you want to find out more about vetting and what we can offer you, please visit fcdoservicescareers.co.uk
