Head of Command and Control - Platforms

An inspirational leader with a positive approach to management, you’ve got wide ranging knowledge of the technology that underpins infrastructure platforms. You also appreciate the significance of strategic planning and the importance of future-proofing technology. But you want to take your career to the next level. You want a new challenge, one with real influence and importance. Here at FCDO Services we’ve got a unique opportunity for you, one that will see you leading the delivery of operational activities to a range of customers while growing our organisation’s revenue.

As a trusted government partner, we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We keep complex developments on track, and on budget. And a whole lot more besides. Now we’re looking for a team-focused Head of Command and Control to join us here at Hanslope Park.

Provide a responsive, high quality service to our customers

When you join us in this important role you’ll own the technical roadmap for our operational pillar, ensure that the technology products within this pillar are maintained, and lead operational teams as they deliver live services. Dedicated to providing the coaching and direction necessary to ensure the consistency and quality of the work these teams produce, you’ll also promote Technology & Operation’s commitment to offering a service of the highest quality by understanding the importance of our responsiveness to customer needs.

Lead on the optimisation of our infrastructure technology

Key to your success will be your ability to ensure teams have the resources and resilience they need to meet demand, and you’ll achieve this by working on a range of recruitment and development activities. Leading and planning the optimisation of existing and future technology, we’ll expect you to identify ways in which your teams could improve their ways of working while maintaining your own professional development. You’ll have a range of additional responsibilities, including working directly with customers to understand their requirements, and acting as a consultant to any requests made relating to IT development and delivery.

Work with a range of tools, systems, networking and remote-working technologies

With strong problem and resource management skills, and the ability to use your initiative while working autonomously, you’ll be capable of bridging the technical and the non-technical with ease. We’ll expect you to be involved in recruitment and the mentoring of apprentices so you’ll be a superb communicator and coach, and ready to use your excellent writing skills in the production of a range of technical documents. When it comes to qualifications, you should have achieved Agile and ITIL Foundation and NVQ Level 3 or have equivalent experience, and possess the ability to use relevant monitoring tools, operating systems and networking and remote-working technologies.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas – but how will we help you in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service pension, we’ll also support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there.

All of our employees have to be security cleared before being appointed, so you’ll need to undergo a vetting process as part of your application. This role requires you to go through Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website.

It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world.

The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every individual, so that you always know you’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer. And why we’re recognised as a ‘Carer Confident’ workplace. And it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.
