Systems Assurance Officer

Full time and based at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes
Free shuttle bus available between central Milton Keynes and Hanslope Park

With a collaborative and structured approach to your work, you can focus on both technical and non-technical tasks. You’re a superb communicator and possess good IT skills. But now you want a new challenge. A role where you’ll use all your understanding of risk to deal with a wide range of information security issues. A career with genuine influence and importance. You want to do your job, but bigger. Here at FCDO Services we’ve got a unique opportunity for you, one that will see you helping in the first line of defence in our work to protect the country’s security interests.

As a trusted government partner, we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We keep complex developments on track, and on budget – with security at the heart. And a whole lot more besides. Now we’re looking for a highly motivated and team-focused professional to help us provide the necessary assurance and compliance of our IT systems.

Ensure our security information remains secure at all times

When you join us in this vital role, you’ll help in providing the initial response and management of any information security incidents that occur and maintain contact with the appropriate authorities to ensure warnings and advisories are monitored and acted upon. Dedicated to keeping our information and data secure against threats at all times, you’ll also be focused on the asset management and lifecycle of removable storage media throughout our organisation.

Use your knowledge and expertise to deliver the advice our teams need

Always ready to advise on procurement, projects, new initiatives, and new and existing ICT systems, you’ll assist in the provision of appropriate training to your colleagues and other members of staff. Offering business continuity support to our team and department and producing the initial drafts and peer reviews of documents, you’ll help deliver the guidance and awareness training we need to ensure compliance with IT security policies, controls, and processes. Helping with the production of relevant reports will be another key task, and we’ll also expect you to maintain your professional development in the latest technologies and best practice.

Help us defend the UK’s national interests from a wide range of security risks and threats

With a deep understanding and appreciation of security threats and the mitigation of risk, you’ll have experience of assisting in the management of a complex service delivery or operational function, and of managing customers and suppliers. Capable of understanding and complying with the appropriate complex legal and regulatory environment, you’ll possess well developed experience of working in an information security function, good technical knowledge of IT systems and associated risk management processes, and familiarity with cloud and mobile technologies. You should also possess an understanding of information security principles, legislation, HMG Information Assurance Standards and ISO/IEC 27001, and hold a professional qualification such as CISSP or CESG Certified Professional (or evidence of working towards this). A track record of supporting cyber and information security and information assurance at a strategic level would be a bonus, as would experience of working with cross-government bodies to design and develop relevant products.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas – but how will we help you in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service pension, we’ll also support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It’s a superb package of benefits as you help to mitigate risk and deal with a range of other information security issues.

If you’re successful with your application, you’ll need to achieve Developed Vetting security clearance. This process can take some time, but the end result – an exciting and fulfilling career with FCDO Services – means that it’s well worth the wait. If you want to find out more about vetting and what we can offer you, please visit fcdoservicescareers.co.uk
