External Messenger

Full time shift work with regular overtime available
Based at King Charles Street, London SW1A 2AH

Have you ever thought about getting more from your career, and using your excellent couriering and driving skills as you work for a global organisation that delivers for the UK government and our international partners? A career where your work will help to protect and secure our vital mission. If you’re looking for your job, but bigger, this could be your next move.

As a trusted government partner, we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides. It’s important work, and you could take your career to new heights as you focus your talents on providing a service of the highest quality.

Use all your skills as you support our global mission

When you join us as an External Messenger, you’ll have a vital role to play in the UK Government’s response to world events as you courier passports, visas and other important documents for our overseas network, support Ministers with the delivery and collection of their Ministerial boxes and perform a range of chauffeuring duties. Undertaking the full range of hands-on driving tasks, including loading, and unloading heavy items, you’ll have regular contact with high level officials and politicians, and visit some of the government’s most important buildings, sites and departments.

Committed to maintain the security and integrity of the consignments you’re responsible for, and dedicated to delivering on time and to the highest standards, you’ll follow our organisational guidelines and standards, and always maintain a safe working environment. You may be required to substitute for the line manager during their absence, work that will involve assisting with the production of rosters and responding to mailbox enquiries. We’ll also expect you to look after the vehicle you drive, including checking tyres, fuel, oil, water and its cleanliness and overall condition, and report any issues or defects to your manager.

Deliver a professional and adaptable service to our high profile stakeholders

With a strong customer focus, your positive, optimistic and ‘can-do’ attitude will allow you to work well under pressure and solve any problems that come your way. You could be chauffeuring some extremely important and high-profile passengers, so you’ll have highly professional, discreet and adaptable communication and interpersonal skills. With a clean UK driving licence, you should be capable of driving both cars and vans, and although an HGV licence isn’t essential, it could come in handy for some duties.

You should have a thorough understanding of driver regulations and the UK law for road users, and a good knowledge of the Greater London area would be an advantage. It’s also important that you’re computer literate and prepared to work within 24 hour, 7 day shift patterns, including public holidays and a 1 week night shift every 6 weeks.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas – but how will we help you in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and Civil Service pension, we’ll also support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, restaurant and recently refurbished outside work space, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It’s a superb package of benefits as you help us to protect our assets around the world.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
