The Construction Design Engineer provides the technical/engineering expertise between the Project Manager and the technical/ engineering installation teams. As a Construction Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of building & construction elements to be installed by FCDO Services teams or external contractors.
Someone with experience of producing construction designs and specifications, you will have a detailed understanding of common construction standards, installation practices and applicable legislation. As a Design Engineer, you’ll design bespoke, complex construction details for installation on projects of vital importance.
Design secure construction to protect overseas missions worldwide
You’ve got an in-depth knowledge of construction and the built environment, you’re able to produce drawings of construction details as part of your design work, and have experience of selecting or specifying construction materials. You will also be required to produce specifications, produce tender packs that are NEC4 compliant and undertake tender evaluations. Previous experience of using AutoCAD is advantageous, however training would be provided, if needed.
The role holder will be responsible for developing designs up to RIBA Stage 4, covering all aspects of building, construction and related systems installed as part of FCDO Services Secure Construction offering. Whether pulling together a fully coordinated RIBA Stage 4 Technical Design in the UK, or carrying out a Feasibility Study overseas, you will use your expertise in construction to maintain the security of the UK’s most sensitive assets.
You will be responsible for ensuring construction designs are compliant with safety guidelines and legal legislation. You’re confident making effective decisions and working collaboratively, so you’ll be comfortable taking the lead on major projects in the UK and overseas. Able to interpret technical documentation, you’ll produce and maintain documents for installation practices and standards, maximising efficiencies in the delivery of business. Plus, you’ll help us develop new products, creating design standards and evaluating products to introduce next-generation solutions.

You’re an expert in construction health and safety and construction design and management regulations. So when you’re providing technical advice and helping us resolve technical issues, you’ll do it all with confidence and clarity. You’ll eliminate risk in projects and provide relevant health and safety information to ensure safe and compliant working practices. You’ll also communicate with the delivery and installation teams to ensure technical solutions are understood and developed with design in mind. In everything you do, you’ll be easy to work with, reliable, responsive, and great at building relationships.
