Resource and Workforce Planner

12 Months Fixed Term Contract

Have you ever thought about advancing your career with an organisation that operates on a global scale to deliver a first-class service for the UK government and our international partners? A career where you’ll use all your planning, organisational and communication abilities as you work across the Engineering and Operations department to ensure projects are resourced with suitably skilled staff. A career where you’ll deliver your objectives in a complex organisation which is at the forefront of the government’s response to events which threaten the United Kingdom’s security and prosperity. If you’re looking for your job, but bigger, this could be your next move.

As a trusted government partner we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides. It’s exciting work – and you could play a vital part as you take on a role that supports the success of our security operation.

Organise and resource the teams that support critical construction work

In this important role, you’ll join our Engineering and Operations department which focuses on all aspects of secure construction, from design to delivery including new buildings, refurbishments and the installation of technical protective security systems to ensure our buildings and services remain safe and secure at all times. Working within E&O and alongside colleagues across the department, it will be your responsibility to monitor a central mailbox through which you’ll receive project requests from customers – you’ll then use Microsoft Projects to plan and resource the teams who’ll work on the projects.

You’ll liaise with Cost Engineers, Project Managers and Heads of Discipline to confirm the skills, knowledge and experience of members of the chosen delivery teams, and take action to resolve any resourcing conflicts at the earliest opportunity by suggesting suitable solutions, escalating to your Line Manager where appropriate. Responding with appropriate information, advice, guidance and support, and producing regular reports and management information, you’ll make a proactive contribution to the development and implementation of improved processes and practices. We’ll also expect you to add value and increase the effectiveness of Business Management, the Engineering and Operations Department and FCDO Services by identifying and communicating opportunities for efficiencies whilst championing our Safe by Choice initiative by challenging, unsafe Health & Safety practices without exception.

Use your interpersonal skills to deliver results that make a real difference

With great attention to detail, experience of coordinating and consolidating project plans across a department or organisation, and capable of responding to the needs of a wide range of specialists, you’ll have experience of planning and deploying resources across differing programmes and projects. We’ll look for well developed Microsoft Projects Online skills or equivalent, while the ability to use other reporting tools that maintain, and query disparate strands of portfolio and programme planning would be an advantage.

Skilled at capacity planning, project methodologies and the coordination and consolidation of project plans, you should have the ability to gather, analyse, manipulate and evaluate data and information. You may only be on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, but you’ll be a vital part of the department. Always ready to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, this is a role where you’ll work alongside a wide range of colleagues, so we’ll also expect you to be a superb team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas. How will we help you in return? We offer a competitive salary, 25-30 days’ annual leave per year (depending on length of service) and a Civil Service pension. Depending on business need, we can accommodate some hybrid working between the office and home. While on-site, you’ll have access to an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. Above all else, we can offer your job, bigger. As a Resource and Workforce Planner, you’ll be working on projects that help us protect people, information and assets around the world. Using your skills in a way that just means more.

Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/
