Apprentice Data Analyst

Learn how to analyse data that will help deliver vital services for government customers. Discover powerful insights that will help improve how we work. Use your analytical acumen to spot new trends and provide the insight necessary to help us make key decisions and grow our business. Join us as a Data Analyst Apprentice and we’ll give you the opportunity to do all of this, and much more.

You could be about to leave school, or looking to return to work after a career break, or perhaps you just want to take your career in a new direction. Join us, and you’ll gain real-world experience and a professional qualification – all while helping maintain the security of a global organisation. So we think it’s fair to say: your future just got bigger.

Let’s introduce ourselves

We are FCDO Services, and our work is as varied and vital as it gets. A trusted government partner for over 75 years, we provide a range of secure services to help support diplomacy, international development and defence for UK government departments at home and abroad. We operate in over 250 destinations, across 168 countries. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages over land, sea and air. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides.

So what will you do?

Working on rotation, you’ll use your problem solving, analytical and communication skills to gain a well-rounded, practical understanding of how data helps drive positive change and protect UK assets. Collaborating with diverse experts across the organisation from the UK National Authority for Counter-Eavesdropping (UK NACE) to our Sustainability and Environment team, you’ll monitor, analyse and assess data from various FCDO Services-installed systems. Along the way, you’ll learn how influential data can be as you share your findings with key decision-makers, partners and technical colleagues.

Whether you’re reviewing project information, designing easy-to-understand dashboards, checking the quality of data and spotting anomalies, or analysing security data to discover threats, you’ll learn to tell the story behind the data – and create meaningful reports that help influence senior leaders too. And you’ll do it all while working towards your Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship qualification. It’s the best of both worlds – genuinely beneficial project work for us, and a professional qualification for you.

Throughout the programme, you’ll receive plenty of training, support and guidance to help manage your workload. And once you’ve successfully completed your apprenticeship, you’ll be eligible for entry onto the Register of IT Technicians – and there’s even the potential of a permanent position with us. In short, you’ll build your specialist skills, have real impact and widen your options – all with the benefits of a career in the Civil Service.

What we look for
This apprenticeship is open to everyone, but you must:

• Have five GCSEs (or equivalent e.g. O levels) including Maths and English at grades 9-4 (A*-C)
• Have a minimum of two A Levels at grade A*-C worth a minimum of 96 UCAS points and including Maths or another numerate subject; or a relevant Level 3

Please note: if you already have a qualification at the same (or a higher level) in a similar discipline, you may not be able to apply unless the apprenticeship qualification provides learning and skills that are materially different to what you’ve studied before. If your qualification is in a different field, then you are eligible to apply.

Vetting
Because of the secure nature of what we do for our government-level customers, all our employees have to be security cleared before joining us. That’s why, if you’re successful in your application, you’ll need to go through a vetting process. This role will require you to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance before joining, and Developed Vetting (DV) shortly after joining. It’s important information to know, so make sure you read the details before applying. You can find out more about vetting on our careers site or by visiting: www.gov.uk/guidance/united-kingdom-security-vetting-applicant
