Welcome to FCDO Services: a team that protects people, information and assets all over the world. We’re a commercially-operated arms-length government body, offering services from construction to cybersecurity, for customers including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; the UK public sector; and allied foreign governments.

Our customer base is constantly growing, and every day brings different projects, from building embassies to providing governments with secure WiFi. As we continue to grow, serving an increasingly diverse global customer base, we need an equally diverse team of professionals with the skills and drive to deliver in these exciting times. It’s a cultural shift – a programme of transformation for our workforce, bringing new skills, new paths, and a passion for constant learning – and you’ll be at the heart of it all.

As our new People Transformation Director, you’ll be accountable to the board for delivery of the FCDO Services workforce and people strategy. To plan our future workforce, guide the change we need and provide the solutions to make it happen. You will bring a proven track record in assessing strategic people issues and developing tailored action plans to achieve the outcomes required to deliver exceptional services that protect the UK interests.

Support teams to provide superb performance

In short, you’ll have a clear vision, backed by both sound analysis and sensitive understanding of our people and their needs.

As you map out our workforce strategy and plan, you’ll bring insightful creativity: whether it’s new tools, policies or operating models for productivity, you’ll always be mindful of what will bring out the best in every colleague and, nurture a culture where our inclusive teams can support one another. You’ll have everyone’s best interests at heart – so naturally, you’ll empower us to be the best team we can be.

Bring understanding that enables change

You know that change on this scale needs collaboration. It needs listening as well as leading, and it needs relationships of deep trust – whether that’s with colleagues, with the executive board, with external stakeholders, or with trade unions. You’re just the person to make that happen.

You open constructive conversation. You coach teams with patience, to help them make change. You give others confidence in your clear vision and how to achieve it. In doing all that, you’ll provide a collaborative style of leadership that inspires others to support and deliver your people strategy on time and on budget.

Look to the future and lead us there

To keep growing, we need to stay innovative. We need to pre-empt customers’ needs across the industries of tomorrow, providing solutions that are second to none. It means encouraging a culture of invention and constant learning, to stay ahead of the curve. You’ll be central to that, whether it’s in identifying brand-new tech skills we need; implementing a future-facing skills development strategy and matrix; or developing specialist and technical career pathways.

Naturally, you’ll bring the same attitude of constant learning in your own work, always staying up to date with the latest thinking in change management, workforce models and transformation solutions. It’s all about bringing constant energy and commitment to shape an incredible team, who work together seamlessly to maintain our growth worldwide. [In short? It’s your job, bigger.]
