Specialist Infrastructure Engineer - End User Computing

At FCDO Services (formerly known as FCO Services), we provide secure construction, digital and logistics services to all sorts of government-level customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Our projects are both vital and wide-ranging: everything from rewiring a centuries-old embassy to delivering secure technology across continents.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, specialising in End User Computing, you’ll play a crucial role in the operation of our organisation by ensuring our software works efficiently for all government departments.

Develop seamless solutions to support global customers

From deploying operating systems to proactively advising senior stakeholders and customers, no two days will be the same. You’ll take ownership of your projects and lead thought-provoking discussions, developing suitable technical solutions. All of this will help you in achieving your ultimate goal: to make sure both internal and external customers have access to up-to-date, efficient software.

Then, when the customer calls for it, you’ll develop bespoke systems that fit into the larger puzzle. And you’ll do all this alongside a collaborative, friendly team where there’s no such thing as a silo. That means we’re looking for someone with a can-do attitude who’s willing support both colleagues and government-level customers around the world.

Use your technical expertise to solve complex issues

To continuously improve FCDO Services’ systems, you’ll be a specialist who’s up to speed with Systems Centre Configuration Management. What’s more, you’ll be patient and methodical, taking the time to devise innovative solutions that will see you owning projects from start to finish.

With our high levels of security, you’ll be a dab hand at managing expectations. From system download to integration, you’ll work side by side with our teams to manage our complex approvals process. After all, our customers deserve the very best, so in everything you do you’ll help us to uphold our customer promise: to be reliable, responsive and build relationships.

Bring your sound knowledge and take on new challenges

What skills do you need? Well, you’ll have an excellent attention to detail – spotting the slightest software error and troubleshooting any kinks during the Security team’s approval process. As a specialist, it goes without saying that you’ll have a strong background working across multiple platforms and secure environments with the ability to design and deploy new builds.
In particular, you’ll have experience working in an ITIL environment and with Windows operating systems. Not to mention that previous experience with Service Now would be a plus. And last by not least, the team’s work is vast and impactful, so sound communication and interpersonal skills are a must.

Discover world-class development opportunities

In this role, you won’t take on direct line management responsibilities, but you’ll help sculpt the minds of the future by taking junior colleagues under your wing. So, it’s fair to say that we expect a lot, but we’ll give you a lot back too. That starts with great benefits, including flexible working, an on-site nursery, a Civil Service pension, and more. And finally, most importantly, there’s that sense of purpose and impact you’ll feel – because you’ll be using your skills to support a business that helps protect people, information and assets all around the world. In short, it’s your job, bigger.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about this process on our website.
