Sensitivity Reviewer

Full time permanent role

At FCDO Services (formerly known as FCO Services), we protect the UK’s interests across the world by providing secure construction, digital and logistics services to all sorts of government-level customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Our work is varied and wide-ranging: everything from making earthquake repairs at an embassy to protecting visa application records. For those who join us, that means being part of a business doing vital and complex work every day.

From global diplomacy to digital security, the work of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is complex and sensitive – and so are the corresponding historical records. That’s where you’ll come in, as one of our Sensitivity Reviewers. Working on the archives of the FCDO, you’ll decide whether files should be preserved for the public record at The National Archives, and you’ll review selected files to decide what sensitive content needs to be withheld for a certain period, in accordance with current legislation.

Use your diplomatic awareness to protect our national interest

It’s an exciting time to join us as we’ve developed a ground-breaking digital sensitivity review system to deal with the rapidly increasing volume of digital records, which began in the early Nineties. As one of our full-time reviewers, you’ll take on both digital and the more traditional paper reviews, so you’ll have delicate decisions to make.

Each record you read will be rich in detail, so you’ll need not just excellent judgement but the diplomatic and overseas experience to back it up. Having ideally worked in HM Diplomatic Service, or for an international institution like the EU or the UN, you’ll have practical experience of navigating the subtleties of cultural difference. You’ll be able to spot what might be sensitive or cause offense in particular countries, and use your knowledge to ensure every angle is considered for the protection of UK interests.

Be methodical and help provide unswerving accuracy

You won’t just have extensive experience; you’ll also have an excellent eye for detail. In an extensive report, you’ll spot the one sentence that might be sensitive. You’re efficient and thorough. No matter the challenge or the density of the document, you’ll bring the same level of commitment to detail, providing an impeccable service for our customers.

And make decisions that impact our nation’s history

You’ll take every challenge in your stride and help us to uphold our customer promise: to be reliable, responsive and build relationships – all things that will come naturally to you. As one of our Sensitivity Reviewers, your decisions will contribute to the public record, as well as to maintaining national security.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
