At FCDO Services (formerly known as FCO Services), we protect the UK’s interests across the world by providing secure construction, digital and logistics services to all sorts of government-level customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Our work is varied and wide-ranging: everything from building embassies overseas, to delivering diplomatic goods, to ensuring government teams have secure IT infrastructure that meets their complex needs. That’s where you’ll come in, as our new Technical Architect.
Use extensive expertise to protect the nation’s interests
This is a role packed full of responsibility and personal impact; because we’re looking for someone to be our go-to expert in Application and API, with a proficiency in Network, Infrastructure and End User Device Architecture. With your extensive technical expertise, you’ll take the lead on multiple projects and advise on the team’s wider work. It’ll see you technically assure system designs, making sure everything complies with our technical and security policies. And as a natural problem-solver, you’ll anticipate business challenges and help deliver spot-on solutions.
The thing about FCDO Services is that, here, you’ll be using your broad expertise on a whole new level. For example, aside from the unique challenges we tackle every day for our government customers, we also support the work of the UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE) team, improving their internal systems and processes. So as we work with a purpose that millions rely on, we need to meet the highest security standards of government.
Create solutions collaboratively – and deliver for people everywhere
Whether it’s reviewing your service pillar’s architecture roadmap or liaising with government customers with exacting needs, your experience in the architecture community will shine through. Open and honest, you’ll welcome your team’s input and encourage collaboration so that everyone benefits from sharing knowledge and ideas. It’s all part of how you’ll help us to uphold our customer promise: to be reliable, responsive and build relationships.
As a Technical Architect you will work closely with the counterpart Technical Architects, Service owners, and non-technical colleagues within the org to develop compliant, innovative solutions, as well as supporting the wider digital community in an Agile environment. You will be exposed to a wide spectrum of colleagues and customers, where your diplomatic and customer facing communication skills will come to the fore, your influencing skills will play a big part in designing and delivering solutions. You will integrate working with other colleagues within the architecture community, across departments, and ensuring solutions are developed with deference to the technical strategy.
For a role like this, we’ll expect plenty of specialist experience: working with VMware and hyperconverged infrastructure environments, working with Cisco Networking, knowledge of Microsoft SCCM and SCOM, and mobile solutions design. You’ll also bring a qualification in Agile and a relevant area such as Computer Science, Computer Systems or STEM subjects (or have related work experience). While having government experience is a plus, we’re more focused on the fresh outlook you’ll bring to the team. So if you’re from the private sector, you’ll show us how your expertise from wider industry can help broaden our horizons.
Bring in-depth experience and have international impact
There’s no denying it: we expect a lot from our Technical Architect. Extensive technical know-how. Excellent communication skills. An inquisitive mind. But we’ll give you a lot back too. That starts with great benefits, including flexible working, an on-site nursery, a Civil Service pension, and more. And finally, most importantly, there’s that sense of purpose and impact you’ll feel – because you’ll be using your skills to support a business that helps protect people, information and assets all around the world. In short, it’s your job, bigger.
All our employees have to be security cleared before being appointed, so you’ll need to undergo a vetting process as part of your application. This role requires you to go through Security Check (SC).
Hanslope Park based posts attract a Location Allowance of £1,750 per annum.
FCDO Services are regulated by the Civil Service Commission.
