Sensitivity Review IT Technical Support Officer

IT Technical Support Officer - Sensitivity Review Team
£24,806 plus £1,750 location allowance
Based at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes, MK19 7BH
Some paid travel to London may be required

FCDO Services – formerly FCO Services – helps Government customers, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, to protect UK interests around the world. We offer a wide range of services: everything from making earthquake repairs at an Embassy to delivering secure communications technology.

You can join us as our IT Technical Support Officer. You will be a member of our ground-breaking Digital Sensitivity Review team – reviewing digital records for release to the National Archives, in accordance with the Public Records Act. This is vital, intricate work, and you’ll play an important role.

Manage information of national importance

For many years we have been responsible for sensitivity review of FCDO paper files. In 2018, we designed and introduced a new digital sensitivity review system in response to a new requirement to begin releasing digital records. We are constantly improving our system and looking to work for a growing range of Government customers. As that digital service takes shape, we need increasing IT support to scale up and manage an ever-increasing volume of digital records. That’s where you’ll come in as our new IT Technical Support Officer.

Shape our system – and your role

For someone with the right experience and ambition, this is a brand-new role which you can help to shape. In doing so, you’ll help develop our digital system too. You will have four key areas of responsibility:

• IT support for our bespoke digital sensitivity system
• Administrative support, adding new users, supporting back-up functions, exporting security logs and more
• Software and application support, from assisting with integration challenges in third-party AI solutions to diagnosing and fixing network issues
• Change and improvement - helping to take our digital sensitivity review system from strength to strength to stay competitive in the marketplace

Grow your expertise as you grow our service

We’re looking for someone already experienced, but ready to reach further. You’ve got the right foundation skills and understanding, including at least three years of IT support; strong general IT and network infrastructure knowledge; interest in AI; and strong security awareness. Beyond that though, there are a lot of niche skills for this particular role, so we’re not expecting one candidate to have it all. That’s why you’ll need to be ready to train and stretch yourself in role, whether it’s gaining proficiency in our bespoke review system or broadening your knowledge of Microsoft Visual Basic, Linux, Docker and more.

Provide clear communication for a critical team

You’re not just an experienced IT professional: you’re also a born communicator, who can explain technical issues to non-tech colleagues, and translate their needs into the right specifications. You’ll work closely with our team of Digital Sensitivity Reviewers, to understand their requirements. You’ll work with the third-party supplier currently supporting the system, to learn from their experience. You’ll liaise with other internal IT colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring we deliver a reliable and responsive service for our customers. And in doing so, you’ll help provide a service that helps protect people, assets and information worldwide.

All our employees must be security cleared before joining us, so you’ll need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Developed Vetting (DV). You can find out more about vetting on our website.
