Garage Technician

At FCDO Services (formerly known as FCO Services), we protect information, assets and people for government bodies worldwide. Whether it’s building and repairing embassies, delivering diplomatic goods across borders, or installing secure IT for government buildings, our vital work is vast and highly impactful.

At our on-site garage, our tight-knit team of technicians work on all categories of vehicles for a variety of government-level customers. As a Garage Technician, you’ll work side by side with the Garage Manager, managing the maintenance of vehicles, ensuring compliance and making decisions on work priorities and technical requirements.

Discover a varied, exciting opportunity
You’ll take on a diverse role where your days will be varied and exciting. Plenty of vehicles – large and small – come in and out of the embassies and Government Sections. Given the security clearance required at FCDO Services, you’ll take on unique challenges that will see you go above and beyond a usual Garage Technician’s role. Whether it’s heavy-goods lorries or motorcycles, you’ll work on a wide range of vehicles – and if you come across something you haven’t seen before we’ll teach you how to fix it.

Whether you’re working with visitors or staff, it’s important you maintain our high standards, with a promise to be reliable, responsive, and build good relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels.

Develop a wealth of new skills
We pride ourselves on how much we can do in-house – or in this case, in-garage. Alongside a team of three, you’ll be responsible for the repair, maintenance, road testing and fault finding for our fleet of around 300 vehicles – so you’ll need to be a seamless communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment.
Maintaining this many vehicles means the role can be physically demanding. From manual handling to working in confined spaces, you’ll receive all the support and training needed to keep you safe.

Deliver a quality service every day
Who are we looking for? You’ll be a team player with excellent communication skills. Maybe you’ll have a commercial background. Or perhaps you’ve worked in local garages. No matter your experience, you’ll be a skilled mechanic with a full UK driving license and a history of effective decision-making, who wants to deliver a quality service every day.
In turn, you’ll find exceptional opportunity to thrive and grow within FCDO Services. Whether it’s our generous Civil Service pension or the opportunities for internal training and career growth, you’ll find true rewards here – and an incredible sense of pride in what you do. In short, it’s your job, bigger.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting here.
