Service Architect

When you join FCDO Services, you’re joining a team that protects government customers both at home and overseas. We do that through a broad range of services, all delivered at the highest level of security. We deliver diplomatic goods across borders. We construct and repair government buildings like embassies and high commissions. And we also offer a wide range of IT services – whether it’s moving a nation’s visa applications to the Cloud, or providing secure storage for government files.

With customers like ours – including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; UK public bodies, and friendly foreign governments – our IT services need to be of the very highest standard. We need to meet our customer promise when it comes to responsiveness and reliability, and we need to provide a level of expertise that gives peace of mind, building relationships of trust. As our Service Architect, you’ll make sure all our services do just that, as you champion our customers’ needs in everything we do.

Mentor your team as you manage our services

You’re an experienced service architect, blending skills in service framework development; service cost modelling; service management; service management toolset; and even some experience in project management. You’ll bring all that to making our work exceptional – but you’ll also impart your experience to the wider team too. For instance, as you look to improve documentation of current services, or help ensure best-practice service design within an ITIL and Agile frameworks, you’ll also share your knowledge with junior colleagues – ensuring the future quality of our services as you do.

As a service architect you will be adept and practised at designing service offerings that are sustainable within the structures you work in. You will deliver service design, service management processes and service management toolset expertise, which will meld naturally for the customer and FCDO Services. You will have a holistic vision of the customer experience and be able to communicate that to wide spectrum of stakeholders.

Represent the voices of high-level customers

You’ll be the voice of our customers in developing our services. You’ll establish deep relationships with customers and stakeholders across government and internally, finding out where there’s opportunity for us to expand our services, and where there’s room to improve. Whether it is leading workshops or attending discovery sessions, you’ll truly focus on what the customer wants and needs, helping us structure our services to match their requirements. Then, you’ll take that depth of understanding and map it into the perfect service design, from delivery model to processes to service level agreements.

With your holistic service architecture vision you will be able to identify risks to proposed solutions, and work towards developing answers, with stakeholder consensus. You realise effective co-ordination is the key to effective design delivery, especially when you work on major projects with big Government departments, such as the MOD.

Strengthen the performance of a team that protects the nation’s interests

You know you’re only as strong as the team around you, so you’re always keen to get stuck in and support in every way you can – particularly when it comes to lending your expertise to tenders and proposals. Working with teams across Finance, Projects & Programmes, Pre-Sales, and more, you’ll make sure the IT services we propose are fit for purpose and that we provide accurate costs and realistic timeframes. Ultimately, you’ll work with teams across FCDO Services to help us ensure that we’re building for the needs of current customers and potential customers alike – and that our technology is equipped to help protect people, assets and information all over the globe. In short? It’s your job, bigger.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
