Senior Engineer Application Operations

Discover a career where you’ll use your skills and expertise to protect people and data around the world. With FCDO Services, you’ll work with government customers to provide secure IT and hosting services, storing data vital to the nation – from visa applications to high-level communications – safely and securely.

As part of the Hosting team, working in Application Operations, you’ll find plenty of pride and reward in what you do. Whether it’s supporting private cloud hosting on Crown property, or helping UK institutions migrate critical information to virtual machines, you’ll be part of a team that makes sure everything we do for our government customers is absolutely airtight. And in return, you’ll enjoy a wide range of Civil Service benefits, from flexible working to childcare options to our highly competitive pension.

Fix complex issues for customers at the highest levels

Our government customers’ work is critical, so our customer service has to be exceptional: we need to be reliable, responsive, and build relationships of trust. Even when we’re faced with the trickiest problems, our level of service never drops. You’ll make sure of that, resolving complex technical problems and incidents passed on by our Application Engineers. Sometimes those problems won’t have precedent, but that won’t phase you: you’ll analyse every issue with aplomb and implement the right solution – as well as identifying where we need preventative measures in future – so that we can continue to improve.

Mentor your team as they provide services that matter

You know that building your team is key to the future of our services, so you’ll mentor junior staff and share your expertise, helping them to solve increasingly challenging issues for themselves. At the same time, you’ll also offer clear, helpful advice wherever you’re needed across the organisation, working with everyone from stakeholders to customers. You’ll use your communication skills to strengthen everyone’s understanding, with specialist knowledge in:

- Windows Server and Office suites
- SQL
- CRM – Dynamics 365 On Premise / Cloud
- SharePoint
- Application hosting on virtualised platforms including Citrix and VMWare
- Working knowledge of legacy applications

Take on real challenges – and find real rewards

Your role will stretch what you thought you could do, but you’ll also be recognised for your hard work too – because while you’re focused on providing exceptional service, we’re focused on your wellbeing. Whether it’s our generous rewards package, our flexible working, our facilities and training, our diversity networks, or our OFSTED-registered nurseries, you’ll find support for your lifestyle here, whoever you are. And while you protect government work worldwide, we’ll provide you with progression opportunities that take you wherever you want to go. In short? It’s your job, bigger.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
